We live in a world where speed & agility go hand in hand when we are designing products, services and experiences, either in the physical realm or the digital realm. But when you look at it from a user’s perspective, there are a lot of unconscious and automatic decision-making variables at play. This has also been the premise of Daniel Kahneman’s book - Thinking, fast and slow.
In a visually driven world, exploring the dependence and contribution of visual perception and attention on a user’s decision making can open plausible strategic directions. To illustrate this point, Dr. Tim Holmes, a neuroscientist extraordinaire will take you on a journey through the world of visual perception and attention, and explain how they contribute to decision making below the threshold of a user’s awareness. Using live demonstrations, evidence from research and state-of-the-art methodologies like eye-tracking, he will show how the slightest change in visual design can be the difference between being seen or not, understood or not and selected or not.
About Dr. Tim Holmes:
Dr. Holmes, a neuroscientist extraordinaire with a doctorate in visual neuroscience, decision making and aesthetic perception from Royal Holloway, University of London, and a graduate degree in Mathematics from Sheffield University, UK.
